Anti-mainstream this week is about rock n roll band from Indonesia. The band who brings rock in 60-70's to your ears. This band are called Karon 'n Roll, they just have been releasing their EP called 'infra bercinta' and the hit single is called Boleh-Boleh.

Float is the name of band from Jakarta, Indonesia. There are three persons, they are….
The song’s called ‘Pulang’ is the first track they had published to the media before they made their debut album that’s called ‘OST Tiga Hari Untuk Selamanya’. Taken from movie soundtrack of ‘Tiga Hari Untuk Selamanya’. The vocal is just like Chris Cornell voice or Dave Matthews. But that’s the strong-point. Let’s see what I have to review this band.
Their debut album consists of 11 songs, 8 songs using English and 3 songs using Indonesian language.

No Dream Land
The vocalist sings in English fluently. I see The Editors voice in this song. Nice music, nice lyrics.

Stupido Ritmo (Sorry, no link for this song! do it yourself!)
I don’t getting the lyric of this song, so I don’t comprehend what they are telling. But the rhythm is really enjoyable and little bit stupid. I think.

Pulang
Oooo…I really love this song. If you know Indonesian language, you will be adoring them because the lyric’s so great. ‘Pulang’ in English says ‘Back Home’. They tell about someone who wants to go home immediately or someone who feels homesick.

There are several good stuffs from their debut album. Like ‘Sementara’, and ‘Tiga Hari Untuk Selamanya’. But I can’t tell you now. Sorry!
So please enjoy what I give to you now!

THE POSTMARKS (INDONESIAN REVIEW)

Beberapa hari yang lalu saya mengunjungi myspace Acid House Kings, lalu saya melihat daftar teman-teman dari band tersebut. Kemudian saya melihat band yang bernama The Postmarks, saya penasaran dengan band tersebut. Bagaimanakah bentuk musiknya. Kemudian saya mendownload lagu 'Goodbye'. Setelah saya dengarkan lagunya, saya merasa nyaman mendengarnya. Beberapa hari kemudian saya masih penasaran dengan beberapa lagu lainnya di debut albumnya itu. Dengan suara vokal yang seperti gadis yang malas dan alunan lagu yang mendayu-dayu, band yang ditempati oleh Tim, Jon, dan Christopher ini sangat baik dalam memainkan musiknya. Saya berkesimpulan bahwa band ini adalah band yang menarik. Ada beberapa lagu mengingatkan saya akan musik dari Klarinet(band yang dulunya dihuni oleh vokalis Stereomantic). Saya band ini akan terkenal di Indonesia.

First, I will tell about Laura Veirs. Who’s she? I didn’t even know her before. Until my friend on friendster requested Laura Veirs’s song. So I searched one of Laura Veirs’s song. I found the song in skreemr.com, there’s so many Veirs’s song. I chose Saltbreaker, because the title sounds unique. She just like KT Tunstal at glance. Is it right?

MEW – THE OLD SONGs

I have listened Mew’s first album Triumph For A Man. There’s a lot of surprise when I heard those songs. I got the album from my new friend Rifan (thanx man!!). Still confuse with some words in their album, Mew has changed a half young people in the world by their work hard. By the way, Indonesia is the most great fans of Mew. Even tough I really hard get their b-sides but I must go on (not connecting to the problem)

There’s a song using mandarin. It’s really cool….I think Mew have to make a song by using Indonesian language inside. Agree?

Period of formation. In this period, they met each other, played and hung up toghether, fought each other, rehearsed a lot, and wrote their song.

2002-2004
In 2004, The S.I.G.I.T. signed to Spills Records and released their self titled debut mini album (EP) and performed many bar gigs and venue. Their first single, Soul Sister soon became a local radio hits in Bandung and Jakarta, made reputated on MTV Trax Magazine as "The Hottest Rock N Roll Band".

By contributing on movie soundtrack for Catatan Akhir Sekolah (CAS), their fanbase grow rapidly. Did I Ask Your Opinion, which appeared as OST on former movie, finally became their first single to be broadcasted on MTV-I.

After leaving Spills Records, they begun to spread their stage performance to bigger venue and region...

KINGS OF CONVENIENCE – OLD STUFFS, COLLABS, RARE, AND SOME CONNECTIONS

There’s no big different on their first album Quiet is The New Loud if you compare with Riot On Empty Street. I knew them when their second album came out. It was really hard to get their songs. But now I can get all mp3s from this band. I like them because their music so softly to be listened. Maybe I’m late to give you information about Kings of Convenience.

On March 2006 ago, they had come here (Indonesia). I was surprised when I was collecting my money for buying their concert ticket and my friend told me that the ticket is sold out. I‘m just modern villager and I can’t get the money quickly. I just stayed at home and thinking them on the stage. I wish there’s a second chance to come here. I promise I will attending there. Now I’m just waiting my friend for giving me DVD live performance from this band. For curing my broken heart I will give you souvenirs kind of old mp3s from Kings of Convenience. I will be dedicated this post to who was watching their performance in Jakarta and Bandung and also who loves their music.

Indo-Indieview (Musik Review) Eps.2

1. D’cinnamons – Loving You

I know this song from Prambors Radio. When the first time I heard, I didn’t know that the band is d’cinnamons. My friend told me that’s Indonesian band. I surprised d’cinnamons come from here. Their music are so different from others. The vocalist has strong point to sing inspite of a simple arrangement. The lyric is so good.

2. Astrolab – We Are Burlesque

I got this song from indiepopradio just same as Santa Monica in previous post. Astrolab come from Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. I don’t have much information about this band. The song is called we are burlesque has middle tempo. Burlesque in Indonesian says is EJEKAN. So “We are Burlesque” mean “Kita Adalah Ejekan”. The member of this band just two persons.

3. Stereovila – Peri yang Bijak

Stereovila started their debut album that is owned by Hai Music. This band come from Yogyakarta. The city that is ever be capital city of Indonesia when Jakarta was coup d'etat. Yogyakarta has nickname art-city and student-city. So don’t be surprised if there’s too many artist on that city. Stereovila play rock describe their expression when Campursari, Keroncong (clanking), and Gamelan are known as Java’s culture.

4. Ape On The Roof – Puzzle

Actually Ape on the Roof is not a band. It’s just side project of Aghi Narottama. Ape on the roof was formed in Seattle. Aghi Narottama is the member of LAIN band (previous post). Utari Syaukat joined the project when she was still studying in Art Institue of Seattle. Both them were meating in same college. Helped by Utari as vocalist, the color of music that were created by Aghi still undefined and leaning semi-electronic with acoustic touch.

5. Sore – She’s So Beautiful

Sore is one of my favorite indie band. At this time I give you song’s called ‘She’s So Beautiful’ featuring Lens TerWe of The Miskins. This song has great arrangement because they can combine between retro pop and punk. Listen that song and you will be surprised. At the beginning of this song the music is so calm and then punk is played.

6. The Upstairs - Digital Video Festival

The Upstairs is one of great indie musician. I have taken this song from their second album Energi. The upstairs often singing at high school party in Jakarta. They called their music genre new wave punk as like Joy Division. The Upstairs is one of pioneer of Jakarta indie scene. With energic moves by Jimi Danger, The Upstairs is running off like rocket.

7. Overloadromance – Dance Will Drop

I know this band from my friend at internet rentals. My friend said that the songs are really nice, full beat and understandable lyrics. Dance Will Drop has fast-beat and semi-techno. I have taken this song from their debut album.

8. Everybody Loves Irene – Try, Try, Try

Finnaly I found Indonesian trip hop. But again, Aghi Narottama inside (huh..). just leke Portishead, Mono, and little beat gamelan orchestra. Now they have to performance in Malaysia. Congratulation!!! Please remember, name of the vocalist is Irene. So why does the name Everybody Loves Irene?

Santa Monica - Anais Lullaby
aransemen yg sangat baik dilakukan oleh Santa Monica. Musiknya berbeda dari musisi Indonesia lainnya. Lagu ini saya dapat dari podcast indieradiopop no.5. Sangat bangga sekali musik Indonesia bisa bersaing dengan musik luar negeri.

Klarinet - Pergi Ke Bulan
Ini posting yang kedua kalinya untuk Pergi Ke Bulan. Saya menerima comment untuk merepost lagi linknya. Saya harap tidak untuk kepentingan pembajakan. Karena musiknya yang sangat sulit dicari dipertokoan maka saya mencoba memperkenalkannya lagi.

Sewaktu saya bermain ke rumah pacar saya. Saya meminta di untuk mengconvert mp3 dari Mocca. Waktu saya ingin sekali meng-upload salah satu lagu dari Mocca dan lagu inilah yang saya anggap unik.

Lagu ini sangat empuk ditelinga. Lagunya bernuansa Perancis. Memang Ballads of The Cliche salah satu penyemarak indie Indonesia. Katanya lagi manggung di luar Indonesia ya?

Lagu ini bagian dari OST Janji Joni. Ketika kemarin saya mendengarnya di radio Prambors saya kira lagu ini bukan lagu dari Zeke and The Popo. Karena saya pikir aransemen musiknya lain daripada musik ZATPP yang sudah-sudah.

Goodnight Electric - T.E.C.H.N.O.L.O.G.Y
Kekuatan indie dilengkapi dengan tekanan tombol elektrik dari Goodnight Electric. Karakter musik yang kuat dan gaya menyanyi yang malas-malasan membuat lagu ini bertipe prapower (belum memiliki kekuatan secara penuh). Tetapi beatnya membuat kita ingin menggerakkan badan.

Kali ini gw akan menggali fenomena sebuah nama band. Korban kita kali ini adalah Stereophonics, Stereomantic, Stereovila. Emang ke-3 band tersebut memiliki kesamaan dalam nama, yaitu menggunakan kata Stereo. Kata Shakespeare sih apalah arti sebuah nama…(jelas ada tau…). Kayaknya pake nama stereo itu bawa hoki deh, eh tapi nggak juga sih. Mungkin aja nama stereo digunakan biar lebih menunjukkan eksistensi segerombol artis dalam bidang musik kali ya. Untungnya band-band yang gw sebut di atas kedengarannya keren trus musiknya juga asoy. Ga kaya band yang berinisial R dan P itu tuh. Mungkin aja masih banyak band or duo yang pake nama Stereo. Bisa aja bandnya Sumanto yaitu Stereomanto atau bandnya orang-orang terkilir yakni Kestereo eh keseleo deh maap. (jangan ketawa!!!)

Eh tau ga? Selain ada stereo sekarang ada juga yang namanya Mono. Yaudah deh gw ngelanturnya. Gw tutup artikel ini dengan mp3 berstereo yach…wasalam!!

Seattle sound from Indonesia. It seems like Radiohead. LAIN merupakan pendobrak musik indie Indonesia. Mereka bukan band indie pertama tetapi band ini berani memakai bahasa Inggris dan ditayangkan di TV. WOW.... Dalam album Djakarta Goodbye, musik mereka kental sekali bergaya radiohead.
